Book a Comfort Diagnostic Home Assessment Today

Most HVAC contractors think only about the equipment they’re installing. At Modern Comfort Mechanical, we think about everything around it. Building science is the study of how a home works as a complete system: the heating and cooling equipment, the insulation, the ductwork, and even the structure itself.

Understanding building science helps Modern Comfort Mechanical do higher quality work and find long-lasting solutions to common issues in the Connecticut homes we serve, from poor comfort and unhealthy indoor air quality to high energy bills, noise pollution, and more.

Finding the Root Cause

Get to the Bottom of the Problem in Your Home with a Comfort Diagnostic Assessment

Our Comfort Diagnostic is a comprehensive 2 to 3 hour in-home evaluation where we measure and test your home’s actual performance. You walk away with a clear picture of what’s happening and an honest recommendation for what will fix it.

A Comfort Diagnostic assessment can include:

LiDAR Scanning

We use LiDAR technology to build a precise 3D model of your home. Every room, ceiling height, window, and wall gets accounted for. This is how we determine exactly how much heating and cooling capacity your home actually requires. This process is called a Manual J load calculation, and it’s how a quality contractor ensures that their heat pump installations are perfectly sized to the home.

Blower Door and Duct Leakage Tests

Our installers thoroughly test for air leaks in your home and in the ductwork. We use blower door tests for general airflow and use specialized inserts to examine the ductwork for pressure loss. You feel this as drafts, uneven temperatures, and rooms that never quite reach the thermostat setting. Finding and quantifying these leaks is the first step toward fixing them.

measureQuick Diagnostics

A third-party tool that gives your HVAC system an objective performance grade, with a detailed breakdown of any problems. It takes the subjectivity out of the assessment so you know exactly where things stand. measureQuick even produces a report card for your system that you’ll receive, complete with a letter grade.

Insulation Analysis

If your home is poorly insulated or has air leak issues, even a brand new, properly-sized heating and cooling system can struggle to keep you comfortable. We evaluate the state of your home with infrared cameras, and if we discover that insulation upgrades would meaningfully improve the performance of your new heat pump, we’ll give you our honest opinion. And while we don’t perform that work ourselves, we’re happy to refer you to a local contractor we trust.
